H. Allan Snyder

   H. Allan Snyder, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at York Hospital.  He was the husband of Cynthia G. (Miller) Snyder, recently celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary.  Mr. Snyder was born in Harrisburg, March 2, 1938, son of the late John W. and Irma O. (Whitmore) Snyder.
Allan served 4 years in the United States Navy after finishing high school.  Upon his return to civilian status, he pursued a lifelong career driving tractor trailer and tanker truck equipment.  In his early career, Allan was employed with both A.J. Williams Trucking Company, Dover, DE, and also with Playtex Corporation, Dover, DE, where his dependability, cheerful personality, and safe driving record earned him the opportunity to provide chauffeur service for the CEO of the company.
Allan subsequently accepted a position driving truck with Amoco Chemical, DE. He was especially proud that he was selected to transport the Amoco Indy 500 race car trailer to the race events.  He eventually retired from Amoco, after achieving 25 years of service.
After his retirement, Allan relocated to central Florida with his second wife, Cindy, where they were both employed at Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort for more than 15 years.  During this time, they became “snow birds”, living between Winter Haven, Florida and York, Pennsylvania.  During his summers in York each year, Allan drove for Carlisle Carriers, water tanker truck for Magnesita Refractories, and later drove bus for Rabbit Transit, the York County public transportation company.   Deciding to fully retire, Allan and Cindy gave up the annual travel between locations, and settled permanently in their home in York during 2014.
In addition to his wife, Cindy, survivors include six children, Louann Insley and her husband, Joe of DE, Rodney Snyder and his companion, Jeanette of DE, Kathy Bowers of York, Susan Maier-Moul and her wife, Margo of NY, Robert Moul and his wife, Diane of Chester Springs, and Rebecca Lenington and her husband, David of AZ; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel F. (Lehr) Snyder, to whom he was married 32 years, and two siblings, Gloria Bell and Kenny Snyder.
Allan’s memorial service will be held with military honors presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard at Noon on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at the Leroy R. Leber Funeral Home, 2290 School Street, (Shiloh) York, Pa, 17408.  The family will receive visitors prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to Noon. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ron Oelrich of Faith United Church of Christ, York.
